An Osprey had been hovering overhead for sometime when I reached the Hide at Kinnordy, inside the Hide were two people armed with a tripod, telephoto lens long enough to reach out and hand feed the Osprey. On looking up I saw the Osprey they were photographing.

This is the shot I took with my dinky little Fujifilm digital camera, focal length 500mm with image stabilising activated. I'm sure the couple with expensive equipment have razor sharp images.

The Osprey is a very large bird of around 2 feet in length with a wingspan of over 5 feet, it weighs between 3 and 4 lbs. Colours of the Osprey are very distinctive, they are dark brown with a white underside and white head. As with most raptors the Osprey have a short hooked beak and exceptional vision. Facial marking are with a dark stripe running from its golden eye to the back of its head that widens behind the eye line.

Osprey soar at altitudes of 50 to 180 feet hovering over their prey and diving full force, feet first and often completely submerging themselves to bring up their catch.
