Macro (micro) photography

Close-up photography can produce creative and dramatic images in the fascinating world of macro photography, close-up photography is also called macro (micro) photography. Micro photography is a interesting way of seeing subjects in a totally new way. Increased magnification allows you start seeing new details that were just a blur of colours from a distance and the macro world takes on a complete new look. The (1cm) image of the spider has a colour appearance of beige when seen by the eye, on close-up the true colours become visible, black, brown and white.

To achieve macro photographs the focusing system needs to let you produce sharp pictures from distances closer than 20cm. The digital camera used on Pixeland allows focusing at an amazing one centimetre from the subject, allowing the frame to be filled with a subject 7mm wide.

The main problem in macro photography is the limited amount of sharpness in front and behind the main point of focus, this is known as depth of field and becomes very shallow on close-up. This can create a sharp focused flower yet show the petals in front and behind the focus point blurred.
