Loch Brandy Glen Clova

A track at Clova hotel to Loch Brandy begins at a large gate within the Glen Clova hotel car park, after entering and closing the gate behind you, a path alongside a small pine wood beginning the climb steadily towards Loch Brandy. The pathway has large stone steps to assist in the exhausting walk at the steepest points and once past these the long walk becomes easier. Once the Loch has been reached, two paths are offered, one to the left and the other to the right. Where the path divides turn left and you are on your way to climbing gradually to the highest peak looking down on Loch Brandy.

On turning left up the slope after a few minutes the gradual climb becomes very steep and at points a little frightening the more you look ahead. This was my first trip to Loch Brandy, dressed for table tennis I soon realised hill walking gear is a must, my shinny white trainers and T-shirt seemed a bit lacking as the rain began. The final scramble to the top level provided no shelter, only stronger winds and a slippery climb down these slopes.

Over the few hours I spent up Loch Brandy, an old man and his wife climbed this steep cliff with hill walking equipment, a family of four two of which were no older than eight climbed these slopes surrounding the Loch and each had full hill walking gear on.

A lesson learned in hill climbing, wear correct footwear, take waterproofs and food to eat. Loch Brandy is one of the best climbs around the Clova glens in Scotland.
